Register for either the Saturday, 5:30 pm Service or the 8:30 am, 9:45 am or 11:00 am Services on Sunday morning.

2017-18 Faith Creek Registration

September 9th - September 10th, 2017

$0 - $25

Faith Creek is designed for children 3 years old (by 9/1/2017) through 4th Grade. It meets Saturday, at 5:30 pm and Sunday, at 8:30, 9:45 and 11:00 am.

Cost is $25 per student (discount for families with 3 or more children.)

As you go through the registration process, you will be able to choose your child's class time.

Share your gifts as volunteers are also needed in Faith Creek.

2017-18 begins a new ministry for 5th grade students called "Follow our Faith". Parents and 5th grade students are invited to the Bridging Meeting on Sunday, May 7, 2017 from 10:45 - 12:30 pm, in the Center for Faith & Life.

No cost for 5th Grade Students.

Each singer will receive a choir handbook at the first rehearsal explaining responsibilities and expectations of participation in the choir program, and will include the year’s singing schedule.

10th - 12th Grade High School Ministry House Groups

September 17th - May 20th, 2018

High School students are encouraged to stay involved and continue their faith journey after Confirmation through weekly gatherings, special events and service opportunities.

New This Year - House Groups

Students grades 10-12, will meet in homes weekly to engage in scripture and build friendships. Once a month students will meet at the church for a meal and a time of worship.

Be sure to print a calendar for the 2017-18 school year, included in the registration.

Note: Permission Slip is attached to registration. Please print it out, complete it and bring it to the Kick-Off. Only one permission slip required for entire year of High School programming.

Lay Visitation Training

Become a Lay Minister! You can be the hands and feet of Christ to visit our SPD members who cannot attend church. Or, become a visitor to families of newborns to extend our congregation's welcoming love to them.

Mondays, September 25th through November 6th at 7:00 pm in the Learning Center.

The small catechism

By Heart: Conversations with Martin Luther's Small Catechism

This study is an in-depth exploration of the Small Catechism and its connection to Luther’s life and your life today. We will explore the biblical and historical context of the Small Catechism and its link to the church’s faith.

7th & 8th Grade Retreat

We will be heading to a service opportunity in the morning, followed by a picnic lunch in a park. We'll enjoy a treat and head back to church for some team building games and activities in the Youth Room. You wont want to miss it!

Baptism Workshop

October 1st, 2017

This one hour workshop is for parents preparing to have a child baptized at St. Philip the Deacon. Participants will get acquainted with one another, explore the meaning of the sacrament, and walk through the order of worship in preparation for the special day.

Registration is required, but there is no cost.

Mn state capital

Encounter - Tour of the State Capital

October 4th, 2017

From gleaming marble, vibrant art and to new public spaces, the Minnesota State Capitol’s comprehensive, 4-year renovation — the largest preservation effort since it first opened in 1905 — was completed in early 2017.

We will be touring the newly renovated State Capital and having lunch at Cafe Latte. The bus will leave St Philip the Deacon at 10:00 am and returning at 2:00 pm.

Cost is $15 for the bus and the tour. Lunch is on your own.

9th Grade Rite of Confirmation Program 2017-18

October 4th - December 20th, 2017

We are implementing a new program for 9th grade students this Fall. It is a 10 week program that will help students transition into the High School Program as well as prepare them for the Rite of Confirmation.

We will be meeting on Wednesday evenings, beginning October 4th, from 6:30 – 7:30 pm (the same time the 6th – 8th grade students will be meeting).

Justin Daleiden will be teaching the class, and there will be some small group time each week. Students will cover the following sections:

• Owning your faith in High School • Write your faith story • Preparing for the Rite of Confirmation

Rite of Confirmation Dates:

January 3 - Confirmation Service Rehearsal/Parent Meeting

January 6 & 7 - Blessing of the Confirmands

January 9 & 10 - Celebration of Passage Services (Wed. Service is full!)

January 13 - 11:00 & 2:00 Confirmation Services (11:00 Service is full!)

When you register, you will be able to choose dates and times for services. More information on the Rite of Confirmation is available on the St Philip the Deacon website.

1st Communion Workshop

October 7th, 2017

Kids in grades 2-5 are eligible to participate in the 1st Communion Workshop. There are three offered each school year. The first one is nearing. The workshop, designed for children and parent(s) together, will be held on Saturday, October 7 from 9:00-11:00 a.m. The kids will then receive their First Communion on Saturday, October 14 at the 5:30 service.

What is “Jesus Crew, “ you ask? It’s a once-a-month gathering for all 5th graders and their friends. We do something different each month, but our gatherings always involve fellowship, food (of some sort), games/activities, life-application devotion and more!

“Treat Yourself Day” is on Friday, October, 13. Why not treat the kids to a movie and pizza at church while you have a couple hours to yourself?

The first Elementary Movie Night of the year will be held this evening from 6:00-8:00. Kids can come with their pjs/pillows/blankets, if they prefer, to watch a movie on the big screen at church. We’ll also eat pizza and dessert. This is open to kids in grades K-5 and cost is $5 per child for the food.

Martin Luther’s hammer rang out 500 years ago as he pounded his declaration of faith to the Wittenberg church door, and we mark the anniversary of this occasion with music inspired by Luther’s revolution. The Minnesota Orchestra conducted by Osmo Vänskä and The Minnesota Chorale perform Bach’s Orchestra Suite No. 2, Medelssohn’s Symphony No. 5, Reformation, and the world premier of Currier’s Re-formation.
