2017-18 Faith Creek Registration
September 9th - September 10th, 2017
Faith Creek is designed for children 3 years old (by 9/1/2017) through 4th Grade. It meets Saturday, at 5:30 pm and Sunday, at 8:30, 9:45 and 11:00 am.
Cost is $25 per student (discount for families with 3 or more children.)
As you go through the registration process, you will be able to choose your child's class time.
Share your gifts as volunteers are also needed in Faith Creek.
2017-18 begins a new ministry for 5th grade students called "Follow our Faith". Parents and 5th grade students are invited to the Bridging Meeting on Sunday, May 7, 2017 from 10:45 - 12:30 pm, in the Center for Faith & Life.
No cost for 5th Grade Students.
10th - 12th Grade High School Ministry House Groups
September 17th - May 20th, 2018
High School students are encouraged to stay involved and continue their faith journey after Confirmation through weekly gatherings, special events and service opportunities.
New This Year - House Groups
Students grades 10-12, will meet in homes weekly to engage in scripture and build friendships. Once a month students will meet at the church for a meal and a time of worship.
Be sure to print a calendar for the 2017-18 school year, included in the registration.
Note: Permission Slip is attached to registration. Please print it out, complete it and bring it to the Kick-Off. Only one permission slip required for entire year of High School programming.

Spirit Bead Workshop - Meditation Ring
October 24th, 2017
Spirit Bead workshops provide creative fun, fellowship and tactile meditation. Participants create meaningful pieces of art that enhance their spiritual practices.
We will create an 18-bead Meditation Ring, and use it to following a simple meditation format that includes mindful breathing, and prayers of acceptance and gratitude.

Fall Festival for Families
October 29th, 2017
Sunday, Oct 29th, 3:00-4:30 pm
Calling families of all ages, sizes, and make-ups. Join us for an afternoon of harvest-themed fun, including TRUNK-OR-TREAT, games, fellowship, petting zoo, food, and an all-around great afternoon!
No cost, but please register by Thursday, October 26th.
MN Orchestra Reformation Symphony

Orchestra Hall Concert: Celebrating 500 Years of Reformation Through Music Friday, November 3 at 8 pm; bus leaves from SPD at 6:30 pm Cost (includes transportation and ticket) $45

Martin Luther’s hammer rang out 500 years ago as he pounded his declaration of faith to the Wittenberg church door, and we mark the anniversary of this occasion with music inspired by Luther’s revolution. The Minnesota Orchestra conducted by Osmo Vänskä and The Minnesota Chorale perform Bach’s Orchestra Suite No. 2, Medelssohn’s Symphony No. 5, Reformation, and the world premier of Currier’s Re-formation.

High School - Renew 24 Hour Retreat
November 4th - November 5th, 2017
We are traveling to Gustavus to get away for 24 hours in the midst of craziness. We're joining 5 other churches for a 1 day of fun and renewal. This is sure to be jam-packed 24 hours of fun! Our youth will have a chance to tour Gustavus, dig into Scripture, make new friends, and have some free time. As you head into finals, we invite you to take 24 hours to RENEW your mind, body, and spirit.
Cost is $35 which covers transportation, accommodation, 2 meals (dinner Saturday and breakfast Sunday), and some snacks.
Dementia Friend Information Session

Join a growing movement of people who are helping fellow community members living with dementia. A little support can make a big difference in their lives. Be a Dementia Friend… it’s easy and rewarding.
You become a Dementia Friend by attending a one- hour informational session to learn the five key messages about dementia, what it’s like to live with the disease, and how to turn your understanding into action that supports people living with dementia.
Reccommended for all SPD Lay Visitors. Led by Dementia Friends Champions: Cheryl Fontaine, Renee Gilbertson and Susan Path, RN, Parish Nurse.

We will gather again this month on Wednesday, November 8th at 6:00 pm.
What is “Jesus Crew, “ you ask? It’s a once-a-month gathering for all 5th graders and their friends. We do something different each month, but our gatherings always involve fellowship, food (of some sort), games/activities, life-application devotion and more!
We will be meeting in the Youth Room again this month.
DAY AWAY for Kids!

There is no school for Wayzata on November 9, so are you looking for something to do? Kids in grades 1-5 are invited to join us for a day of fun, figuring out how we are shaped by God!
We will begin at SPD at 8:15. Our day will consist of service time at Feed My Starving Children, adventure time at American Ninja Warrior gym, and creative time at SPD. Our time will end at 3:45.
Adult Chaperones are needed to fulfill our ratio at Feed My Starving Children. High School Students can also register to help.
Cost for the day is $35 per student (bus, Ninja, craft supplies, snack). Deadline is November 3!! A minimum of 15 students is required. Remember – register by November 3!

Pigs & Pigskin Sunday, Nov. 12, noon -- Contact Pastor Mark Schmid Time to fire up the smoker! Guys of all ages, please join us for the 4th Annual Pigs and Pigskin event at St. Philip the Deacon. Time for fellowship and football! Vikings vs. Washington—kick off at noon.
There will be smoked ribs for lunch, courtesy of Pastor Mark and Erik Jacobson. The cost is $12 for adults ($15 at the door), and $7 ($10 at the door) for children 10 and under. To help with quantities, please register in advance online or stop by the Hospitality Desk.

Sleep Out- Interfaith Outreach

The Annual Interfaith Outreach Sleep-Out
Open to High School and Middle School Youth (Bring Your Own Box!)
Saturday, November 18 at 5:00 pm- Sunday, November 19 at noon You are welcome to set-up shelters during the afternoon within the designated areas
$15.00 per person ($5 of every registration will go directly to Interfaith Outreach and the remaining $10 will go towards covering dinner and breakfast).
Volunteer for the following options: 1. All Night Chaperone 2. Interfaith Outreach & Service Project (Roughly 6:30pm-10pm) Most Needed 3. Breakfast (8:00-10:30am)

This one hour workshop is for parents preparing to have a child baptized at St. Philip the Deacon. Participants will get acquainted with one another, explore the meaning of the sacrament, and walk through the order of worship in preparation for the special day.
Registration is required, but there is no cost.

Christmas at the American Swedish Institute
November 30th, 2017
Scandinavian Christmas at the American Swedish Institute. The Encounter will include a tour of the mansion, that will include the six rooms, each decorated for one of the Scandinavian countries. There will be time for shopping the expanded gift shop and lunch (on your own). On our way back to the church we will make a stop at Ingrebretsen's Gift Shop in south Minneapolis.
The cost for the tour and bus transportation is $22 per person.
Expressions of Faith: Bible Art Journaling Retreat
December 1st - December 3rd, 2017
Join Pastor Mathison and Amanda Berger for a weekend of Bible Art Journaling. Learn new techniques; participate in a Bible study then bring it to life in art; make new friends and enjoy great food in the warm and cozy setting of South Fork Farm.
Arrival at the retreat is anytime after 5:00 pm on Friday. We will officially begin with an appetizer/dessert reception beginning at 7:00 pm. (Participants will bring an appetizer, snack or dessert to share.)
South Fork Farm is a 1920's farmhouse converted into a comfortable crafting retreat. Visit www.southforkfarm.com for more information about the retreat site. Meals will be homemade and prepared onsite; food allergies can be accommodated.
Retreat Add-On's: On the registration form you will notice options for a couple of add-on purchases. We are happy to order a NIV Journaling Bible for you for the retreat. We are also offering a deluxe art supplies kit that will include additional specialty supplies. If you would like to purchase either of these items, please order them at the time of your registration.

Conversation: Plymouth Playhouse

The Conversation will be at the Plymouth Playhouse for our December gathering. We will be seeing The Looney Lutherans in Hold the Lutefisk (It's Beginning to Smell A Lot Like Christmas). Reservations are required, and the is is $22 per person.
No transportation is provided, we will just plan to meet at the Plymouth Playhouse.
